The founder of ORC is Demian Ross, KR6Q. As a gun lover, he thought AK2AR would be an awesome vanity call, but being in 6 land, he didn't feel right having a 2 land call. Fast forward a couple of years, and he was talking with other operators who were also pro-2A and enjoyed doing SOTA/POTA, camping, and other outdoor activities, with radio added in. The idea for the Outdoor Radio Club was formed, and AK2AR was registered as a vanity club call.

Currently, ORC has only a few members, all local to the Northern California region. There have been discussions about growing the club and using the callsign for some type of activations. The members go out as friends, but as a club, we're fairly inactive.
